What is a Martingale Collar?A martingale collar,
sometimes called a “humane choke” was originally designed for sighthounds
because of their unique structure where their heads are smaller than their
necks. In a regular buckle type collar, they would simply back out of it.
Martingale collars are designed so that if your dog attempts to back out of the
collar, a separate second piece of the collar will tighten. Martingale collars
are made in several widths from 1” to 2”. The wider the collar, the more
support is given to the dog’s neck. Our collars are adjustable to several different sizes and therefore can be worn by any dog, not just sighthounds. If you need a larger or smaller size than our standard sizing, we will be happy to make one for you. Tags should never be
placed on the “D” ring of martingale collars. If a dog should accidentally
catch the tags on a grate, etc, the collar will tighten and could injure your
dog. Please place tags on either the side slides or better yet, get one of our
tag collars! Back to Top
What is a Tag Collar?A tag collar is an adjustable collar to be used only with tags. It is worn loosely around the base of the dog’s neck. Because it does not have that “second” part of the collar that will tighten, if a dog catches his tags in a grate, etc, he can simply back out of it. PLEASE NOTE: Tag collars are NEVER to be used with a leash. They can be worn around the house or used with a regular martingale collar while out for walk. Back to TopHow do I measure my dog for a collar?First, measure your dog
around the neck where the collar will be worn. Next, Measure your dog’s head
around the widest point (usually in front of the ears). If these measurements fall
outside our standard collars sizing, (12" to 17" for 1" and 1 1/2
" wide collars, and 13" to 18" for 2" wide collars) we will be happy to make a special one for
you. Back to Top
How do I know the collar is properly adjusted?Pull the Martingale collar snug around the narrow point of the neck (usually just behind the ears), adjust the collar so that when you pull up on the D-Ring to snug the collar, there is only 1½ to 2 inches between the slides in the loop. Check the fit periodically. A too loose collar could allow the dog to back out of it. Back to Top
Who is Aid4Greys ?The mission of Aid4Greys is simple: We raise funds for adoptable greyhounds around the country. 100% of the profits from all sales go to help these lovely creatures find their “forever homes”. We are not an adoption group, but we are incorporated as a nonprofit organization in the State of Illinois. We are all volunteers dedicated to fundraising for and educating people about retired racing greyhounds as pets. Back to Top
Who are you guys?Lee Tauriello (AKA Mother
Bunny) has been involved in Greyhound rescue and adoption since 1996 with the
adoption of her first greyhound Governor. Volunteering with several greyhound
adoption groups, Lee put her sewing talents to use making the world famous
“Mother Bunny Bunnies”, Tribbles and HeartThrobs. She also has done
extensive fundraising for groups by chairing reunions and traveling to greyhound
events such as Dewey Beach. She currently lives in Bolingbrook, IL with her
three
hounds Emma, Jackson and Cruiser Pat Lewandowski and her
wonderful husband Stan are relatively new to the greyhound world. After adopting
Alibi in 2003, Pat helped Lee in making the Bunnies and the rest, as they say,
is history. Proof that you "can't have just one", Pat and Stan adopted
Emily in 2006. Dividing their time between their homes in Illinois and Arizona, Pat
is the “ Super Seamstress” who created the “AnyWear Collar” and is a
boundless source of energy. Stan, who thought his retirement was going to be
endless golf, has become our webmaster, devil’s advocate and all around good
guy. In January, 2005, we
decided to start Aid4Greys as a way to combine all our talents to benefit the
Greyhound Community at large. Back to Top
Tell me about the Bunnies. Our bunnies are all made using faux fur; they measure approximately 12” high, are double stitched all the way around and have 3 squeakers! ( one in the nose, one in the tummy and one in the tail). Some hounds make them “fly” by grabbing an ear and quickly circling around and then releasing the bunny. Many have also been seen sleeping with the hounds. The bunnies are constructed so the arms, ears and legs cannot be pulled off and there are no buttons or embellishments that could be swallowed. Fully machine washable and dryable,(but keep in mind that the long-haired bunnies have a tendency to mat up when washed, but the dogs don't seem to mind it one bit) they will give your hound hours (and hours!) of enjoyment. What the heck is a tribble (or a HeartThrob)?A Tribble is a small round
toy approximately 5” in diameter super stuffed to make it fat and has one very
large squeak in the center. It perfectly fits a greyhound’s mouth and they
love to carry it around and squeak, squeak, squeak! Back to Top
